Warning: Vent Open

I don't normally post things like this, because I don't like to get in the middle of things, but seriously, enough is enough.

Let me say first that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and please don't take this as "mine is right and yours is wrong." I just want to share mine, and if you get mad, that's okay. However, I'm being civil, so I hope you will too.

I've heard people are mad that we (meaning Utah) celebrated the 4th of July on the 3rd and the 5th, since the 4th landed on a Sunday. First of all, it's not called "the 4th of July," it's just been nicknamed that. It's actually called "Independence Day," and the important thing is WHAT we're celebrating, not WHEN.

I found that in 1779, July 4 fell on a Sunday also, so the holiday was celebrated on Monday, July 51. This seems to be nationally, not just one state.

This goes along with something I've heard about Utah for a long time. "The Mormons are taking over." No, we're not taking over. If you actually paid attention in your history class, you'd understand. The Pioneers came here and settled Utah. I feel strongly hurt when people say that because I have ancestors that worked hard to make this state what it is today. That is why Utah is composed mostly of Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On this same note, I am glad we have a diverse group of religion, and I am respectful of others' beliefs. Please respect ours.

Thank you.
